Getting ahead of the game never got hurt anyone, and what better manner to occupy the gloomier months at the beginning of the year than by planning our 2023 wardrobe.
Tailoring
Slouchy, oversized blazers were all the rage at Valentino and even Chanel opt out for the relaxed-fit versions of its trademark bouclé jackets in playful blues. If you’re a die-hard sharp tailoring girl, luckily Beckham came through with plain tailored blazers that act as mini dresses.
Mini dresses
Speaking of the devil, mini dresses are back with a bang and at the SS23 iterations are all about texture. belted LBDs at Chanel and Pearl embellishments at Givenchy provide a certain opulence, whereas Versace’s purple chromes felt flashy, in the best possible manner.
Lace
Lace was out in full on force, with many designers favour sweep maxis with cool cutwork. Baby blue lingerie-inspired pieces were showcasing at Burberry’s belated London Fashion Week show whereas both Versace and Dior oozed gothic glamour.
Fringing
Versace’s buttery leather fringing feel very ‘cool-girl-meets-cowboy’, whereas Victoria Beckham’s take spotlighted ultra-kinetic hems and ra-ra minis.
Thigh-high splits
The dramatic bombshell split that we are accustomed to seeing on a red carpet is making its pathway into SS23. glossy midis at Prada, Silky slip dresses at Givenchy, and colourful florals at Dries Van Noten are paving the pathway – and are pretty much into it.
Denim
Designers are making denim sexy for SS23 – who’d have thought it? Asymmetrical fitted shirts paired with soft pink co-ords at A.W.A.K.E. had certain hippyish glam, whereas Bella Hadid’s buckle Givenchy buckle bra radiated utilitarian sultriness.
Cut-out dresses
Cut-outs are having a significant moment, and British trailblazer Poster Girl has been leading the real way with its stretchy geometric designing. However, next season we’re loving huge proportioned cut-outs, look at the likes of A.W.A.K.E, Andreadamo, and Valentino for inspiration.
Blue
Hello! Fashion’s Style Editor Laura Weatherburn offer her take on the season’s cool colour palette. I loved a brighten cerulean blue as a pattern to the cute Barbiecore red trendy. It felt a little bit more sophisticated, works year-round, and fitted snugly into my near all-black wardrobe. I like Christopher John Rogers oversize overcoat in particular – très chic.
Animal print
Everyone has the opinion on animal print, it’s pretty much marmite in the fashionsphere. I, on one hand, loving zebra print, especially when it come up to accessorising, Laura explains. But struggling to get my head around the leopard look. That being said, you might well find me in an Alessandra Rich twinset coming summer.
Utility
The glam utility trend is peak Y2K – sheer cargo pants and low-slung belted skirts, a nostalgic mashup of satin jumpsuits (you do thank Miu Miu for that), that have been elevating for the true dress-up moment. Simply slip on a boiler suit, add on the killer pair of heels and unzip to the navel, Laura advises.
Mermaidcore
News of Disney’s upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid has hit designers pretty hard. Expect striking scale-inspired embellishment alongside shimmery fabrics and fishtail silhouettes that radiates over every curve. Turn to the likes of Elie Saab, 16 Arlington, and Valentino to get your fix.
Ultra-femme sheers
sheer fabrics and Sultry mesh are having a moment at present, but with an uber feminine twist. Thinking ruffles at Valentino, cool-chik chevrons at Chanel.
Grunge
Tartan has been all over the SS23 runways, signall that grunge is making the comeback. Play it cool in a Bottega Veneta flannel shirt or keeping up your eyes peel for pieces adorning with botany embroidery à la maison Dior.
Costume drama
Costume-inspired details like puff-sleeves, balloon silhouettes, capes and corsetry are higher up on the agenda for SS23. Regencycore girlies, eating your heart out.
Sultry hoods
Channel your inner Grace Jones and raise up the stakes by opt out for the striking hooded gown, taking your cues from Valentino, Saint Laurent, and Alaïa.
Textures galore
Fringing, Feathers, and sequins are all party classics, but as per to the runways, they’re officially summer/spring suitable too. Taking advantage of the post-Christmas sales and start your 2023 with the textural bang.
Silver metallics
This season, lustrous metallics have taken the cool turn, with silver at the forefront. Checking out Chanel’s cami dresses, Altuzarra’s pleats and Valentino’s maximalist outerwear for the injection of motivation.
All that glitters
It is in fact gold for winter/autumn, and we’re take up our cues from the likes of Simone Rocha, Huishan Zhang, and 16Arlington.
Rich reds
Move over a cobalt blue there’s a newest primary to get to the clench with, says Hello! Fashion’s Editor Jill Wanless. Red suddenly felt really fresh again, especially worn head-to-toe. I likeda this colour pop at Eudon Choi [centre] in the formt of the silky dress, mules as much as you appreciated the mini dress at David Koma.
